Beyond the Plate is a 21-day journey of daily journaling with powerful daily prompts to help you become more mindful of your eating habits and your relationship with food so that you can choose to make changes to your eating behaviors when you are ready. Beyond the Plate does not include a food diet but instead this emotional eating journal helps you repair your relationship with food, and with yourself.
You can make progress journaling per the prompt in just 5 minutes minimum per day. If you wish to journal longer than 5 minutes you can. What's most important is showing up for yourself daily for those 5 minutes of distraction-free journaling to explore your relationship with food.
What makes Beyond the Plate different is instead of free-form journaling you will receive a powerful daily prompt each day for 21 days to journal on. Each prompt is different and is designed to help you become more mindful of your relationship with food so that you can begin to make new decisions in your eating choices.
How much weight you lose will depend on several factors including what you are eating, how much you are eating, your physical activity, and how consistent you are with all of it. We cannot guarantee a certain amount of weight loss since that is ultimately in your control.
You could certainly grab a pen and paper right now and start journaling about your emotional eating without structure. You won't get the same results as you will from journaling 21 consecutive days following the prompts in Beyond the Plate because each day contains a new, unique prompt to journal on. The prompts will give you new ways of looking at things, new ideas that can be hard to think of on your own when you're immersed in your struggle.
It can be very easy to get stuck in a rut with emotional eating (I understand, I've been there!) and when journaling on your own most tend to get stuck in the story since they cannot see beyond their comfort zone. In Beyond the Plate just keep an open mind, follow the prompts, and journal on each prompt for the 21 days without trying to be perfect. There is no right or wrong to what you write but you will want to stay on topic with each prompt. This will prompt you (no pun intended) into areas it's hard to imagine on your own, for the purpose of exploring your relationship with food and yourself.
